A True Personal Tale for Your Entertainment

Although I usually stick to posting all the beautiful finished projects of our membership, I thought I'd share the following  true experience of mine that I posted to my Facebook this past May.  I really can laugh about it - now.

"Bad day for the quilt hermit...

First, I'd like to say that with all the awful things that are going on in the world right now, the following story is not a "poor me" story. It's just an "oh no" story and meant for entertainment.
Here goes...
For anyone who knows me well knows I love fabric. I love getting into a great fabric store and just staying there petting the fabric as hundreds of possibilities roll through my head. It can almost become overwhelming. My friend, Patsy, will attest to my almost hyperventilation at my first step into the Augusta quilt show with hundreds of quilts and dozens of vendors.
Well - I've had this group of fabrics by Kate Spain from Moda. It was called "Canyon" and had loads of greens, aquas, grays and peach as the core colours. I bought it 3 years ago and was waiting for the right pattern. I looked at it every time I looked at my fabrics and thought not yet. Finally that pattern came and I cut and cut and sewed and sewed. Oooh I liked it! It was complete except for two a couple of borders in aqua and gray. Yesterday at 5, I left my gorgeous quilt top spread out on a sheet on the floor down where I sew in the basement.
This morning I woke up to a disaster! When I rolled out of bed, our dear old sheepdog, Calleigh, greeted me with that urgent "I need out" look - at the same time it struck me, as I'm diving for the back door to let her out, that the upstairs gate was open and she wasn't well. Past experience has taught me this is not good. I headed for the basement and found 5 - yes, 5 large piles of diarrhrea in the middle of my beautiful quilt top! And we hadn't heard a sound.
Needless to say, there will not be a lovely queen size quilt with such a soft summer feel on our bed. With luck, I may have enough fabric left to make a table runner.
I have spent the last 3 hours cleaning up the dog and cleaning up the mess that a large, furry, sick dog with a bum covered in poop leaves on all 3 floors of the house. Oh joy! But I still love my old dog and I'm off to boil some hamburger and rice to ease her tummy troubles.
All I can say at this point --sh-- happens! 😕
Have a good day all!"

Well, that's my tale. Calleigh is still with us and here is Cal and the lap quilt I did get to make from the pieces and by adding some extra fabrics. It's scrappy and looks nothing like the original.

Happy Sewing,
Gloria P.
