Our first Cottonmill Quilt Guild Meeting was held yesterday and was very well attended with about 70 members there including 4 new members. Joan Baldwin held the meeting and Show and Tell as always, was a hit.
Barb Elliott, CMQG's our Community Projects person, asked Stephanie Seymour from York Care Centre to come and address the Guild.
Stephanie is the Manager of Activation and Volunteer Services at the Centre. One of the things that some members of our Guild has been doing is making Activity Mats for Alzheimers patients. Stephanie explained their role and how well appreciated they have been. Often fidgety, patients use the various parts of the mats to keep their hands busy. It was an enlightening talk. Following is a picture of an example of a 24 x 20 inch lap mat.
Margie Clouston, of the Workshop committee talked about various activities coming up, the next being the construction of this bound Goody Bag:

Joan talked about the quilt made by a small number of CMQG members over the summer to be auctioned at the Alzheimers Gala Dinner in October. Why do you think? Beautiful isn't it?
Show and Tell finished off the meeting part of our day and then members went into the board room for a lesson in English paper piecing of grandmother's flower garden.
